All My Sons,
Arthur Miller's
best known and most beloved
play, has made a
triumphant return to the West End with a stellar cast and powerful direction from
Howard Davies. The play tells the story of the Kellers, a family whose lives are overshadowed by the presumed death of a son who never returned from war.
David Suchet presents an almost pitch-perfect Joe Keller, taking us on a journey that we know will not end well and yet which we are always enthralled by.
Zoe Wanamaker as his wife is torn and fragile; desperate to prevent the union of her second son to his dead brother's ex girlfriend, and even more desperate to maintain the belief that one day he might return. While the action is full of tension and the final scene builds to a tragically moving crescendo, there is a possibility that some of the pivotal moments are a little clunky in their delivery -- the play needs no signposting. But this is a minor criticism, the set, script and cast all
dazzled in what will surely be the
runaway theatrical blockbuster of this summer.
NB: runs till 02/10.
