Wildlife sound recordist
Chris Watson has travelled globally, documenting the incredible audio diversity of the natural world, and is well known for his radio and TV work, not only for the
BBC Natural History Unit, but also as a solo recording artist on the
Touch label. Currently he has an
audio installation piece --
Whispering In The Leaves -- in the exotic (and humid)
Palm House at
Kew Gardens; it's a rich tapestry of dawn and dusk choruses from
South American rainforests. The other man involved in the aforementioned TV works is of course
David Attenborough, so for the two to have a discussion about
collaborating to produce these unique, enlightening, and historical documentaries in public is an exciting prospect, given their joint experiences and Watson's unusual and inventive techniques, used to capture often never-heard-before sounds. Focusing on the sound recordings used in the Kew piece, the pair will also talk about the
inhabitants of
this rainforest environment, providing their own insights into these rich and changing -- perhaps
vanishing -- locations.
NB: Whispering In The Leaves is at Kew Gardens till 05/09. On both 28/08 and 29/08 Chris Watson will perform live at Palm House.
