Flitting effortlessly between frenetic accordion passages and funereal Balkan infused folksongs,
A Hawk And A Hacksaw create a unique sound. For this European
tour the two core members
Jeremy Barnes and
Heather Trost will be joined by
Sam Johnson on trumpet and
Issa Malluf on
dumbek to preview new work from their forthcoming fifth
album due out on
The Leaf Label later this year. Covering accordion, percussion, violin, and vocals between them,
Barnes and Trost employ a range of influences from their travels across the globe and as such inhabit a fascinating space between the familiar and the uncertain. To simply describe this as folk music would be to ignore the ambiguous nationality of the sound; there are elements of
Balkan, English and Hispanic traditions amongst many others, creating a fascinating mix. Despite this hybrid style, AHAAH maintain a unified sound that is entirely their own with highly attuned musicianship and musical understanding on show. Support comes from
The Family Elan who weave together timeless folk songs and sound all at once medieval yet undeniably modern. This intimate show promises two exceptional bands, each dealing with traditional music in their own unique ways.
