Occasionally we come across an artist of exceptional talent, who knows what buttons to push and what happens when you push them. This is a rare combination, and one to be savoured when it presents itself. The unfortunate thing is that more often than not, this combination lends itself to the occupation of an uncomfortable territory between anonymity and infamy. Despite the fact that Sally Mann's career spans more than three decades, and her work has been heralded as comparable to that of Robert Frank, this Photographers' Gallery exhibition is her first ever London solo show. Why is this the first we're seeing of her work?

Cinema is becoming increasingly polarized -- following a frenetic turbo-drive towards pure simultaneous speed and fantasy that would make Paul Virilio (and the Lawnmower Man) proud, as well as the contemplative resisting impulse to dig in our heels and stop and smell the roses, even at the cost of causing a pile-up.

Simplicity is often the most successful way of satisfying an audience; show them something that they can respond to, something they can get a grip on. Don't over complicate their field of vision, or bombard them with too much information. Don't patronise them with fact sheets, or reference tools, or pamphlets. Let them discover. There is literally nothing that satisfies more than discovery.

It is important to consider the history of architecture and design in Miami Beach when discussing the 1111 project on Lincoln Road.  Ever since Ian Schrager and Philippe Starck had the foresight to reinvent the Delano Hotel in the early '90s, much has been made about the resurgence of South Beach in recent years.
